Towards the end of the Summer last year I had the pleasure of shooting with a good friend of mine, Erica. Manhattan & Brooklyn. Wow I love the city!! It was a very hot and sweaty day . . . the bride was an hour and a half late to the church (its the bride's prerogative by the way) and one of the bridesmaids had to be rushed to the ER after having a severe peanut allergy. . . . one of my clients informed me the other week that the end of the Summer is almost upon us. Labor day is only 2 weeks away. Yikes!! I have only been to the beach a handful of times. Crikey! So its been a manic season. So many super cool weddings . . . lots more to go too. Once I quieten down a little, I will do some intense blogging of the amazing couples I have had the pleasure to shoot. In the mean time, here are a few snaps of what we have been up to, including running around naked on the porch, a brief bit of sailing, camping and entertaining.

Lots of goofing around here on a very, very hot day. Was 100 degrees as I got out of the car and you could see the humidity in the air. Crazy! Us English people aren't used to this sort of stuff you know? Anyhow, Joanna and Jason are high-school sweethearts and are very cute together. They wanted to see each other before the ceremony. Finally got around to looking at some of the pics from the 4th. We all went to deepest Michigan to see the in-laws (or the out-laws as I like to call them). Let me say, Michigan is a super place to take pictures. Some of the smaller towns seem to have been forgotten by time. Great sight seeing :)

Weather was great, lots of jet-skiing and some impromptu family pictures. Enjoy!

These guys were so cute. They were married in Italy (small European country that invented Italian food) and ever since, have been reliving the celebrations back home in the US. I was lucky enough to be invited to shoot the 'East Coast Party' at the Four Seasons in Boston. No ceremony, just lots of relaxed portraits and kissing . . . followed by fun and dancing. Thanks you two. I had a blast! Why oh why didn't you invite me to Italy :)

Last week I shot a wedding at the Atlantic Beach Club in Middletown. To my delight the carnival was up and running next door. So we did these amazing portraits including the bride and groom (Sheila & Nick) zooming down a 100 ft slide . . . images to be posted soon! A traditional Indian wedding with amazing colors, delicious food, super-friendly guests and a cute couple. What more could you ask for? And wow, did they know how to party!! Congrats you guys!

An age old British tradition

Passed down from generation to generation . . . this age old English tradition has been practiced methodically from King Arthur's Round Table to the living room of Sir Winston Churchill: the art of 'dipping one's biscuit (cookie) in one's cup of tea'. Now passed on to little Lydia Claire, aged 2. The trick is to 'dip liberally', thus avoiding the biscuit breaking off and dropping into the tea. FYI, I had about 5 uneaten biscuits floating in my cup of tea by the end of this!

Apparently we need to now take pictures of the carnage!

Actually broke out the BBQ the other day . . . yeeehaw!! Love to BBQ, although I am not known for my cooking skills. Two choices when I cook: 'well done' and 'cremated'. I actually like my meat medium rare, I just haven't figured out how to do it that way. Besides, being a Brit - its always better to overcook your food! Kills all the madness!

Yesterday witnessed the party of the year at the Whiteley household. Children flocked from across the State to wish Lydia a happy birthday. Cake was thrown, drinks were spilled and games were played . . . even the paparazzi were there! Thanks to all that came. Hopefully the bloody marys eased the shock of doing this early on a Sunday!

Last week we had the pleasure of an old school buddy and travel pal Stjohn and his son Oliver (aged 2 years and 8 months). They flew in from New Zealand, quick stop-over in San Francisco . . . and then arrived here in Boston. Little jet lagged to say the least. They then proceeded to wreck my house and generally tire me out, leaving Saturday pm to fly to London to see the Grandparents. From there they fly on to Shanghai and then back to Wellington (Wellies for all you Kiwis). Essentially they are circumnavigating the globe!! You are braver than me chap. Mind you; Ollie (second cutest kid on the planet) is an amazing little boy. Very well behaved and lots of fun. Think my daughter took a real shine to him. Ollie . . . come back in about 16 years ok??? Great to see you both and enjoy the rest of your trip.

" . . . 'tis the season", so I am told. We thought we had escaped the various vomit bugs that have been floating around for the past few weeks. It seems that just about everyone has caught something this winter . . . and I thought it was our superior imune systems that had kept us in the clear so far. Not so. After a lovely little trip to Buttonwood Zoo yesterday, little Lydia hurled in the car seat . . . and then continued until about 7am this morning. Poor little thing. Thankfully she is alot better today though. Nothing quite as upsetting as seeing your little one be so sick. Anyhow, here are a handful of the zoo picks (pre-vomit). If you are wondering where the Lions, Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos etc are . . . there aren't any. They do have a nice ride-on train though.

Some Studio Stuff

Winter is generally the slow season when it comes to weddings, though this year I seem to be slow only for January. Things kick off again in February. Yeeehaw!! Bring it on! Anyhow, unable to sit still for too long, I try to do some cross-training when it comes to photography. Studio shoots are always a blast, and a couple of weeks back I had the pleasure of doing some test shots for Amanda (and partner Brian). Amanda is an aspiring model and is well on her way to a successful career. Thanks again to Olivia for helping out. Olivia got some very cool shots too . . . perhaps we might see some of those if she updated her blog occassionally :)

New Year in LA

New England in the winter is lovely . . . for about 3 weeks. Then the snow and frigid temperatures get a little old! With that in mind, we didn't hesitate in accepting an invite to LA to see my parents, step-sister and family. Heeelllooo 78 degrees and sunny! What fun! Here are a few snaps of the clan. Enjoy!

So the scenery is amazing once you leave LA. A quick drive up the PCH, some goofing around on the beach and lunch with the 'Bikers' at Neptunes Net.

Just had to throw these last images in. My parents have somewhat of a reputation for making cocktails that are so potent your hair will fall out! Now I like a drink or two (being a Brit), but not even I could finish one of these! So I chucked the rest in the fuel tank of the rental car to get us back to the airport :) This is my wonderful step-father teaching little Amelia to mix cocktails. Nice! Needless to say, she wasn't allowed to sample any of them.

Thanks to Mary, Brendan, the kids, mum and Ivor for a great time. Miss you guys! FYI, after getting the delayed red-eye back to Boston we walked out to pick up the car . . . . it was 6 degrees!! My sun-tan literally fell off right there!

2 posts in 1 day . . . wow!! Well it is Boxing Day after all. Being a Brit we celebrate Dec 26th almost as much as Christmas Day. Not a US holiday, but am going to Lobby the State to see if we can introduce it next year. Here are some family pics:

So got a call from this super couple last week. Getting married at VERY short notice as the Bride is off to join the Marines . . . next week! Wow!! Had the great pleasure of doing some very quick pre-wedding formals for them before they all went off tie the knot at a church in Warwick. Hope you had a great day guys. Cruising . . . Carnival Style!! (?)

So after a crazy work year Sara and I decided to take a nice relaxing break. Going on a cruise would not be my first choice. Now let me preface this by saying that Sara is a 'Cruiser' . . . i.e. she has cruised before. I have not. And there is a reason for that.

She has been trying to convince me for some time that a cruise would be a great little vacation, though my reply to her was always "I'd rather boil my head . . .". I eventually caved in on this one occasion. It also happened to be a friend of ours 30th birthday celebration, so there would be a crowd of cool people going. It was also incredibly cheap. I was up for it. Eating and drinking 24 hours a day, no land in sight, a bedroom with no windows . . . and games like the 'hairiest chest competition' poolside EVERY day. Class! Remind me to tell you about the sting ray excursion we went on in a hurricane; and a drinking game where you all pretend to be chickens!! Good few days though. Lots of laughs. Now seeking new liver please. Here are just a few pictorial highlights.

Lydia Clarie Whiteley, 18 months old, the most important item in Mummy and Daddy's world . . . and she knows it :) So bathtime is always a fun event. One week after the doctor put tubes in her ears and everything is great. I swear she can hear so much better, though she still chooses to ignore us when she is being naughty! Selective hearing is the name of that condition. Not curable as far as we know. Anyhow, as you can tell, she loves bathtime and is now completely OK with us washing her hair (she used to hate it). Probably the numerous ear infections.

So I haven't done this for months . . . I actually did a shoot that wasn't classed as work. Nice! Olivia, (www.blinkofaneye.com) invited me to come along and help at her shoot with Brooke (the aspiring model). Brooke, who is 17 years old (going on 27) is well on her way to the world of modeling. She is about 8 ft tall (6ft really), has an amazing look and is a complete sweetheart. I am positive the agencies will be stumbling over each other to get her signed up. Thanks again to her parents who have this amazing property with horses, barns etc. They were a lot of fun. Dad, call me when you have the cow on the BBQ. Good luck Brooke! Don't forget about us when you are famous. Thanks again to Olivia for the invite. These are just some snaps I took while Olivia worked her magic.

So a long time friend of mine came to vsisit from the UK the other week. We had a blast and she shared with me some exciting travel plans that are looming on the horizon for her . . . a world tour no less!! Luck thing. So as a quick appetizer, we did a day tour of Newport. In particular the Breakers mansion and a sailing cruise. Very cool! Good luck on your travels mate. Miss ya!

So . . . more and more I seem to be working with second shooters. Its great. Love the company and its always a great learning opportunity. The Photographer community in other parts of the US has a very open philosophy towards information and technique sharing . . . almost to the point of business sharing. What a great idea! Lets all work together! Now thats not to say a little competition isn't good :) its just that we would all benefit from a more cooperative peer to peer relationship. If nothing else, it will probably bring good Karma! With that said, I am going to try and publish pics of my peers when I am lucky enough to shoot with them.

Bonnie (www.bonniecarterphotography.com) - also a very talented photographer with a cheeky sense of humor. Now thats pretty Bonnie!

I luuuuurve Beavertail in Jamestown . . . and when the sun is setting, that magic light just makes the whole thing so much better. I say 'last minute' with a smile. Dan called me and asked whther we had time to squeeze one in before their wedding (last Sunday at the Eisenhower House in Newport). They wanted to display some of the images from the shoot at the wedding. Naturally I said YES :) Cute couple, great fun to work with. The wedding was a blast. Wow!! What a wedding. South Dartmouth really is the place to be in the Summer. Super beaches and a real New England country feel to it. Funnily enough Nonquitt Casino doesn't really resemble a Casino. Located in a private compound by the water, it looks more like a converted barn. Beautiful though, with its own golf course behind. Worth looking at, all you brides and grooms to be!
